Today’s media world has brought up issues that cannot be investigated through traditional research methodology within communication studies. The recently published book Integrated Media in Change, edited by Riitta Brusila and Hannu Vanhanen, discusses the contribution of a multidisciplinary approach to integrated media studies.
The concept of media is mobile and flexible, and new media are not just an extension of the old ones. For example Facebook and other networking services are new interactive channels used for distributing information and entertainment directly to the audience.
According to media researchers, media studies entail both generic and country-specific characteristics. Despite the global context, media-related phenomena should also be studied at the national and even at the local level to fully understand them.
The book elucidates the multidisciplinary junction that enables philosophy and social sciences to merge with communication, design, graphic design, photography, art, and social media technology.
The contributing authors are professors, university lecturers, doctoral students, and researchers from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Bangladesh, and China.
