Publication: eCompetence is needed in social work
26.6.2014
"eCompetence for Social Work", published by the Faculty of Social Sciences, examines the emerging challenges faced by social work in an information society. The book is a final report of the Master's Degree Program of e-Competence in Social Work, a three-year project funded by European Social Fund.
The book consists of two parts. In part one, the authors consider the
current challenges social work encounters, especially in maintaining
welfare services in rural areas. The need for ICT solutions is apparent,
but the state of ICT applications in social work varies. The second
part of the book focuses on the need for e-competence in social work.
The articles discuss the current supply of e-services in social work,
the relations between social work and ICTs in Northern Finland, and
assess the Master’s Degree Program that connects ICTs and social work.
The
book is edited by Arja Kilpeläinen and Kirsi Päykkönen, lecturers in
the Master's Degree Program of e-Competence in Social Work. The authors
are students, faculty or otherwise connected to the Program. The book is
intended for persons interested in the possibilities ICTs offer to
social work.
