Publishing workshop
18.5.2018
This workshop is about maximising the opportunity of getting one's scholarly work published. Apart from writing papers ‘relevant’ to the target journal, they must be submitted in accordance with the required ‘style’, and they must also be written in clear, scholarly‐level English.
Authors should know which journal to target and how to react to editors' and peer reviewers’ requests, and some commonsense rules should be followed and there are tips that can help. A separate but critical issue is that the English expression must be of an extremely high standard. This is much greater challenge for authors with a mother tongue other than English.
Dr Ian Dobson has extensive experience as an editor of scholarly refereed journals (Journal of Institutional Research (1990-2002); Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management (published by Taylor & Francis) (2000‐2016), and Australia’s oldest and highest‐circulation scholarly higher education journal Australian Universities’ Review (since 2008). Despite having been a career administrator, he has nonetheless authored or co‐authored about 100 papers scholarly refereed journal articles and book chapters.
