Reconstructing minds: Conference in August

The conference “Reconstructing minds – the ethics of post-war memory and recollection” will be held at the University of Lapland on 25–27 August 2014. The conference will deal with topics relating to material and mental reconstruction, such as memory, remembering and recollecting; forgetting, remaining silent and being silenced.

The keynote speakers will be Timothy Ashplant, Visiting Senior Research Fellow (Centre for Life-Writing Research, King's College, London, UK), and Veli-Pekka Lehtola, Professor of Sámi cultural studies (Giellagas Institute, Oulu University, Finland).
 
The conference is directed at researchers, students and others whose interests include the processes of reconstruction – mental as well as material – that take place following wars and other collective disasters.
 
Online registration opens on 1 April. There is no conference fee.
 
Deadline for the receipt of abstracts: 31 March 2014

Conference will be organised by the research programme "Feeniks – Art and culture in the mental and material reconstruction process following the Lapland War".
