The research project "BIOS – The Biopolitics of Sustainable Development in the Barents Region" (2011–2013) has probed questions of development, biopolitics and the North. Results of the project will be presented at the University of Bristol during spring 2014.
The project has been funded by the University of Lapland and it has been led by professor Julian Reid, international relations, and research professor Monica Tennberg, Arctic Centre.
Professor Reid will be a visiting professor at the research unit Global Insecurities Centre (GIC) at the University of Bristol during the spring 2014. The GIC will hosts the book launch of
Resilient Life: The Art of Living Dangerously (Polity, 2014) co-authored by senior lecturer Brad Evans, University of Bristol, and Julian Reid. Researchers from the BIOS-project, Marjo Lindroth and Heidi Sinevaara-Niskanen, will meet researchers and give an open lecture at the GIC as part of their researcher exchange at the end of February. Their lecture is connected to a forthcoming article in journal Global Society.
