Rosa Maria Ballardini (LL.M, Ph.D, Docent in IP Law) has been nominated Professor of Intellectual Property Law at the University of Lapland, Faculty of Law as of 1.3.2021.

Ballardini.
She will also continue as the leader of the research group on
Law, Technology and Design Thinking, as well as the PI at ULap of three currently running multidisciplinary research projects on law, innovation and sustainability (i.e. the STN project ValueBioMat, the Academy of Finland project Share and the Ministry of Education and Culture funded project ENACT).
– The role of law in shaping and fostering technological innovations has made the headlines for many years already. Nowadays, the element of sustainability in this context has become increasingly important. I have always been committed to the fact that whatever research I do, ethical values like fairness and environmental and social sustainability should always be the driving forces. I hope this new position will allow me to develop this approach even more, and ideally spread this philosophy also amongst other stakeholders, Ballardini tells.
Previously Ballardini has been an Associate Professor (tenure tack), Senior Lecturer and University Lecturer at the University of Lapland, as well as a post-doc at the Hanken School of Economics. She holds a PhD from Hanken, Finland (2012), an LLM in IT and IP law from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland (2005) and a Master’s degree from the University of Brescia, Italy (2003). From 2008 to 2009 she was a Visiting Scholar at UC Berkeley/Boalt Hall. In 2017 she was granted the title of Docent in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Helsinki.
