Activism as planning? Rethinking tourism business and economies seminar explores the conceptual and empirical powers of activism upon tourism business and economies. It is open to everyone interested in activism, sustainability, responsible tourism business, diverse economies of tourism and the consequences of these upon tourism spaces. Responsible tourism planning is also one of the research profiling areas at the University of Lapland (Profi 5, 2019–2023).

“The seminar will shed light on activism as moral deliberation motivated by a desire to bring about positive change and address societal challenges in which values are in conflict. The seminar will be an excellent opportunity to learn about the different shades of activism and its implications for tourism in both theory and practice”, states José-Carlos García-Rosell, senior lecturer at the University of Lapland.

“Activism, in its different forms, is always political action aiming to change society. In this seminar we explore the ways activism could promote new horizons for tourism and yet again, how tourism practices can be used as activism in different spheres of society”, continues Minni Haanpää, senior lecturer at the University of Lapland.
