Six applicants for the position of Rector of the University of Lapland

Rector will be elected for the term 1.1.2025–31.12.2029.

Six people applied for the position of Rector of the University of Lapland by the deadline of 27.5.2024. However, only five candidates will be considered as applicants, because one applicant's application does not meet the requirements set for it.

Applicants for the position of Rector are:
· University lecturer, TaT Krista Korpikoski
· Project coordinator, FT Tim Luoto
· Dean, TaT Satu Miettinen
· Vice Rector, OTT Soili Nystén-Haarala
· Rector, HTT, PhD Antti Syväjärvi

The University Board elects the Rector for the term 1.1.2025–31.12.2029. A doctoral degree, the ability and professional skills required to perform the duties of the rector and good leadership skills demonstrated in practice are required to be elected to the position of rector. The Rector carries out the duties assigned to the Rector by the Universities Act and is responsible for strategic planning, the implementation of the strategy confirmed by the University Board and the operational management of the University.

The Board will decide on the election of the Rector at its meeting in August. During the week preceding the selection meeting, on 21 August, an introduction event for the lead candidates will be organised by the University Collegium. The event will be open to the university community.
