The University of Lapland supports Ukranian nationals by offering them studies for free. Ukrainian refugees in Finland may engage in Open University studies until 2023 or apply to the university for a non-degree right to continue their studies. Both options are offered to Ukranians at no cost.
The University of Lapland condemns the Russian military operations in Ukraine and supports Ukranian nationals by offering them studies without charge.
Ukrainian refugees may study at the Open University or apply for a study right to continue their studies. Our faculties and Language Centre offer a large supply of studies in English.
Open University studies for Ukrainians
The Open University of the University of Lapland offers degree programme-compliant studies in various disciplines. The study attainments are entered into the university’s study register, from which they can later be incorporated into a university degree.
The Open University is available to everyone regardless of one’s previous education, and the studies are offered to Ukrainians free of charge until 31 July 2023. Students are admitted to courses within the limits of relevant quotas.

Studies for Ukrainians to be taken with a non-degree right to study
Ukrainians or other nationals with a right to study for a degree at a Ukrainian university may apply to the University of Lapland for a right to continue their studies that were interrupted by the war. The studies are free of charge, and persons with a non-degree right to study are given guidance on selecting appropriate studies.
The university opens up 30 study places for application, which begins on Monday 16 May. The application period continues until the study places are filled.
The right to study lasts two years and may continue up until 31 July 2024. It enables you to complete 120 credits’ worth of studies. A non-degree right to study does not grant you an actual student status or a right to complete a degree. The Student Union of the University of Lapland offers the Wellness Pass to students with a non-degree right to study.
The students can also apply for an Erasmus grant for a study period of five months (one term).
