Welcome to the first Sustainable Naturecultures and Multispecies futures (SuMu) symposium on-location in Rovaniemi at the University of Lapland (Finland) September 23–25, 2025.
The SuMu community brings together scholars and artists that are interested in naturecultures, multispecies encounters, Sámi and Indigenous studies, and natural resource politics in a time of great planetary change.
The theme of the symposium is ‘Human-environment relationality’, and we invite traditional paper presentations as well as more artistic, creative and outdoor submissions on the three streams of: Natureculture in Practice, Multispecies Knowing, and Indigenous Relational Ontologies.
