Nordic experts in legal informatics will convene in Rovaniemi on November 12–14, 2019. The theme of the conference is “Digital Rights, Digital Lawyers, Digital Courts”, and main speakers include Professor Erich Schweighofer (University of Vienna, Austria) and Chancellor of Justice Tuomas Pöysti.
Additionally, the conference will feature presentations by several renowned Nordic professors and experienced professionals. This year, the speaker list also features guests from the United States, Portugal and Poland.
The event consists of an open workshop for doctoral candidates on Tuesday, November 12 and a two-day main event on the following Wednesday and Thursday (November 13 and 14). The main venue of the event will be the university main building (Yliopistonkatu 8). Up-to-date information about the academic and social program will be provided on the conference website.
The Nordic Conference on Legal Informatics 2019 continues the tradition of Nordic meetings, seminars, and conferences on legal informatics, dating back to 1980s. Nowadays, the legal informatics communities in Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark take turns in organizing this annual event that brings together those who are interested in the relationships between law and technology from all the Nordic countries and beyond. The speakers and participants include renowned legal informatics experts, university researchers, government officials, professionals from the private sector, law students, etc.
The Nordic Conference on Legal Infomatics was previously organized in Rovaniemi by the Institute for Law and Informatics (University of Lapland, Faculty of Law) in 2015. This time, the event is organized by the Institute for Law and Informatics in cooperation with thematic research groups “Law, Technology and Design Thinking” and “Procedures & Processes” that operate within the Faculty of Law. The event is supported by Heldtin stipendirahastosäätiö.
Fees: Registration fee 100 € (regular participants) / 50 € (PhD students; registration is free for those who give a presentation in the workshop) + an additional 50 € fee for the conference dinner.
