As of the beginning of June, university staff may return to campus provided that the COVID-19 situation allows it. Members of staff may work remotely in Finland when the duties do not require presence on campus. The guidelines will apply until the end of the year. The guidelines will be updated when necessary.

Teaching arrangements: Teaching for first- and second-year students will primarily be delivered face-to-face on campus

New students will be introduced to the University of Lapland and learning at the university campus. The faculty and staff of each field of study welcome new students to campus, arrange orientation, and deliver face-to-face teaching in accordance with the safety guidelines. However, the general orientation, which is the same for all new students, will be organized remotely.

Teaching will be delivered face-to-face, online, or through a blended delivery model (in a hybrid form), depending on what best fits the class. The units will decide independently on the teaching arrangements with a particular focus on solutions that promote engagement and interaction of first- and second-year students (those who started in 2020) in the university community.

Teachers in charge of courses are responsible for informing the course participants of the teaching arrangements. Teaching delivery takes place in accordance with the presence requirements that will be specified for each course unit separately. The Faculties and the Language Centre will publish their course/study unit catalogues in WebOodi by 9 August 2021.

The electronic exam service EXAM is available to the students of the University of Lapland between 8:00 and 00:00 and to visitors during the official opening hours of the University.

Working on campus

Members of teaching and research staff may work remotely when the duties do not require presence on campus.

Members of the general personnel work on campus in accordance with the health security guidelines. Members of the general personnel may also work remotely when the duties do not require presence on campus. In this case, employees are expected to agree with the supervisor on remote work periods well in advance.

Remote participation in meetings can be arranged where necessary. In the notice of a meeting it must be stated whether the meeting takes place on-site; on-site and remotely; or entirely remotely.

Do not attend the campus if you are not feeling well or if you have symptoms compatible with COVID-19. Everyone is encouraged to practice good hygiene at all times. Washing hands is recommended in spaces with access to handwashing facilities. Hand sanitizer dispensers are located at the entrance of teaching spaces. The coworking spaces that are in heavy use are cleaned more often.

Students who are pursuing a traineeship follow the employer's instructions.

International mobility

Student mobilities, short mobilities and traineeships (incoming and outgoing) are possible if the current travel restrictions and restrictions on entry into the host country allow mobilities.

Public defences of dissertations

Public defences of dissertations can be arranged in the University's premises in accordance with the current attendance limit, or remotely. Public defences of dissertations will be available for the public in real time via live streaming.

University premises

The University is open during the official opening hours. Student key fobs allow 24/7 access to the university premises.

Information on using the LUC library and the library opening hours is available at the website of the Lapland University Consortium Library.

Conferences, seminars and travelling

As for the restrictions on the number of people in gatherings, national recommendations are followed. Events and seminars may be organized on-site, remotely, or in a hybrid form. The event organisers are responsible for collecting the relevant information on the teaching sessions, research meetings and other gatherings taking place on campus along with the relevant participant details for the purpose of tracing possible infection chains.

When travelling for work, the relevant profit unit director's permission is needed and general safety instructions must be followed throughout the trip. Everyone travelling abroad for work purposes is expected to follow the guidelines of the local authorities.
