The University of Lapland Optimistic Moving into Autumn: Back to Campus!

26.8.2021

The University of Lapland enters the autumn term with optimism. The University is working towards a greater in-person presence on campus during the autumn, so that teaching can be delivered in an effective way appropriate for the subject matter.

– We have outlined a plan to gradually open the campus so that, at the beginning of the autumn term, priority will be given to face-to-face encounters of first- and second-year students. In the autumn of last year, the academic experience of our second-year students started remotely, and we know that the need to connect with fellow students, teachers and the entire university community is great, says Satu Uusiautti, Vice-rector responsible for education.

As a university community, we must continue to work together to be able to resume our normal, face-to-face activities on campus. Many are understandably tired of the restrictions, but we need to continue to act responsibly both on and off campus. It is our joint efforts that will ensure the continuity of face-to-face teaching and learning, as well as working on campus.

– We plan to resume normal face-to-face teaching for all our students by the beginning of the second teaching period in October, to the extent that this is possible. Of course, this will depend on the guidelines of national and local authorities, which we are following closely, says rector Antti Syväjärvi.

Important points to remember:
• Strong recommendation to wear face masks on campus continues to be valid
• Please do not attend campus or meet people if you have symptoms of COVID-19. Get tested and stay home while waiting for your test result.
• The University recommends that all members of staff and students have the COVID-19 vaccine. In Rovaniemi, also non-residents staying in the city for the purpose of studying or some other purpose for a period exceeding 5 months can get vaccinated. Further information and instructions for making an appointment for vaccination are available on the website of the City of Rovaniemi.
• The safety instructions of the University also apply to those who are fully vaccinated.
