The University starts a shuttle bus service between the premises

13.1.2012

As of Monday, January 16 the University of Lapland starts a pilot bus service between the main campus and the premises of the Faculty of Art and Design. The service is operated by Kutilan Liikenne Oy.

The bus starts from the main campus and drives to Pöykkölä where the temporary premises for the studies of audiovisual media culture, graphic design, industrial design, and textile and clothing design are located. From Pöykkölä the bus continues to Rotko (next to the railway station) where the studies of art education, fine art, and cultural studies are located.

The bus leaves from the main doors of the main campus three times a day: at 8:15 am, 10:45 am and 3:30 pm. The bus follows the following route: Yliopistonkatu 8 (in front of the main doors) – Laajakaista 3 (in Pöykkölä) – Siljotie 2 (Rotko) – Yliopistonkatu 8.

The bus runs from Monday to Friday for five weeks – from January 16 until February 17.

The service is available free of charge only for the University students and staff who need transportation between the premises to carry out their studies, artistic work, research and other duties.

During the five-week pilot service, the University gathers information from those using the service. The future of the service after February 17th will depend on this feedback.

Due to the renovation of the premises of the Faculty of Art and Design, the Faculty is located in the following three premises in Rovaniemi as of January 2012: in Pöykkölä, next to the railway station in Rotko, and in the University’s main campus. Through the bus service, the University wants to make it easier for the students and staff to move between the different premises, and thus to facilitate studies, artistic work, and research during the renovation.
