What is childhood like in Finland? What kind of practical solutions have been created and evaluated – as well as those under development – that aim at both providing good childhood experiences and supporting children’s positive development? These questions are discussed in the special issues of a recognized English journal Early Child Development and Care.
Professor Kaarina Määttä and Post-doc Researcher Satu Uusiautti edited the special issue that covers the education and teaching of under-ten-year-old children in Finland (Special Issue Title: Early Child Care and Education in Finland).
This Issue consists of 12 articles written by experts who represent – in addition to the University of Lapland – the Universities of Oulu, Turku, Tampere, Jyväskylä, and Helsinki, and various sub-disciplines of education. All articles have gone through a rigorous peer review process.
Reports are organized within the following strands: 1) The realization and evaluation of early childhood education; 2) Perspectives on children’s well-being; and 3) Special viewpoints to early childhood education, care, and research in Finland.
Because of the interesting and quality content of the special issue, an international publisher, Routledge, has agreed to publish the special issue as a book. The book will be published during this year.
The special issue and book are very suitable to, for example, the experts and researchers of education and behavioural sciences and health care and social sciences, and can also serve as a complimentary material for graduate students.
The special issue published in Early Child Development and Care, Vol. 182, Issue 3–4.
