The annual convention of the Finnish Political Science Association will be held at the University of Lapland on March 7–8. The convention gathers together approximately one hundred academics and students to discuss the ruptures and reveries in the field of political science.
The
convention’s theme focuses on one of the cornerstones within politics:
the tension between political reveries and strains of reality. The
programme includes key note lectures and panels addressing the current
issues in the field of political science.
Convention’s key note
speaker is Professor R. B. J. Walker from the University of Victoria,
Canada. Known as one of the top experts in international relations,
modernity, subjectivity and sovereignty, Professor Walker will lecture
on the interfaces between political imagination and limits of modernity.
The lecture will take place on Thursday, March 7 at 1:00 pm in Fellman hall.
A
special lecture will be given by Senior Lecturer in Political Science
Erkki Berndtson from the University of Helsinki on Friday, March 8 at
1:00 pm in Fellman hall. His research interests include history of
political science, politics of higher education and also power and
democratic theory. At the FPSA Convention 2013 Erkki Berndtson will
speak of “Europeanness, World Politics and Change in the Social Sciences
– A Survey of Finnish Political Science Research in 2013”. The lecture
will be the third part of his trilogy of similar surveys delivered in
1973 and 1993. The lecture will be in Finnish.
Panels will
discuss voting, political theory and action, biopolitics, international
relations, citizenship, democracy, parliamentary system, municipal and
party politics, political economics and interfaces between religion and
politics. Half of the panels will be held in Finnish, half in English.
