The University of the Arctic (UArctic) and its Arctic Sustainable Art and Design Thematic Network (ASAD) organized an international photo competition. The inaugural theme of the competition was Arctic Polarities. Both the students and the staff members of the University of Lapland were awarded.
The award ceremony took place during Arctic Design Week in Rovaniemi, on the 24th of March. The winner of the student category was
Mikhail Sinitcyn (University of Lapland, Master’s Degree Student in Social Sciences, Tourism research). The second prize (tie) was awarded to
Esa Pekka Isomursu (University of Lapland, Faculty of Art and Design, Doctoral Candidate). The second prize of the staff category was awarded to university lecturer
Antti Stöckell (University of Lapland, Faculty of Art and Design).
There were 27 different photographers participating the competition. They submitted a total of 75 photos. The head of the international jury was professor
Timo Jokela, University of Lapland.
