A student of the University of Lapland, Viljo Vuorimäki, has been elected to the Board of the University of Arctic (UArctic) as a Student Representative for a fixed three-year term (2023–2026).
The UArctic Assembly has elected Viljo Vuorimäki to the UArctic Board.
Viljo
Vuorimäki is a 21-year-old student of political science and sociology
at the University of Lapland. Vuorimäki has been the Chair of the
Executive Board of the Student Union of the University of Lapland (LYY)
since January 2023. In addition, he is Vice Chair of the Arctic Five
students' team, Executive Board Member of the Arctic Five and First
deputy of the faculty council of the Faculty of Social Sciences at
University of Lapland.
"It was a pleasure and an honor to be
elected to the UArctic board as a student representative. I'm looking
forward to what kind of international opportunities and challenges this
position will bring," Vuorimäki says.
UArctic's annual Assembly
meeting was held on 22–26 May 2023 in Québec City, Canada. UArctic
Assembly brought together approximately 120 participants from 15
different countries both in the Circumpolar North and from outside of
the region. The local host of the meeting was Université Laval. UArctic
welcomed 17 new members institutions, elected two new board members and
approved five new Thematic Networks. The next UArctic Assembly will be
held on 2–3 June 2024 as part of the Arctic Congress on May 29 – June 3,
2024 in Bodø, Norway.
