This workshop will bring together scholars from multidisciplinary background to initiate discussions on issues concerning gender inequalities among caregivers in aging sector in Nordic countries. The workshop will be held at the University of Lapland on 28th and 29th of November 2019.
As the demand for caregivers for older people are increasing in all across Nordic countries, gender equality questions have been an issue of discussions at all levels in the policy arena. The discussion in this workshop – for example, why care remains such a gendered question and how different societal structures and cultural ideals support this genderedness – will bring added value in knowledge building which will help identify concrete challenges and develop a further research platform and research agenda.
The scholars are Dr. Lena Wennberg from the Umeå Forum for Studies on Law and Society at the University of Umeå, Sweden; Professor Päivi Naskali, Associate Professor Minna Zechner and researcher Marjo Outila from University of Lapland. Associate Professor Joan R. Harbison from the School of Social Work at the Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada; and Adjunct professor Arnrún Halla Arnórsdóttir from the School of Health Sciences at University of Akureyri, Iceland.
The workshop is part of the activities of the NIKK-GIACG project led by Dr. Shahnaj Begum and supervised by Professor Päivi Naskali from the University of Lapland. It is funded by Nordic Council of Ministers NIKK-NORDIC FUNDING SCHEME.
