Exam rooms

Exam rooms are marked by the numbering of the computers. Exam computers 1–9 are located across the library in A142. Exam computers 10–25 are located in A-wing (Social Sciences), in A119. See campus map.

If you are a student at the University of Lapland and have a key card to the university premises, the Exam rooms are available to you every day at any time. If you do not have a key card or if you are an Exam visitor to the University of Lapland, the Exam rooms are available to you during the university's opening hours.

Exams start on even hours. The doors to Exam exam rooms open 5 minutes before the exam and lock again 30 minutes after the exam starts. Safety instructions are followed in the Exam rooms.

Examination surveillance

• The regulations pertaining to entry surveillance, evaluation of studies and use of information systems apply to electronic exams.
• The e-exam room is equipped with real-time and recording video surveillance.
• You are not allowed to leave the examination room during your exam.
• Surveillance and confirmation of identity will be accomplished by collating entry surveillance and video surveillance information with your examination.

Current Information 

The EXAM rooms now have two Pen Displays for the examinees. The Pen Displays are meant for students who need them for taking the exam (e.g. for mathematical tasks). If you need a Pen Display for your exam, choose ”Piirtonäyttöpaikka” when booking the exam.The instructions for the Pen Displays are on the Pen Display desks in the EXAM room and on this page.

The EXAM rooms at the University of Lapland will be closed on the following dates in 2025:

• May 7th: from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (maintenance)
• June 4th: from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (maintenance)
• July 2nd: from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (maintenance)
• August 6th: from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (maintenance)

Opening hours during summer:

University of Lapland is closed between June 30th and August 3rd. During that time students are not able to make EXAM visits to our university. Those University of Lapland students who have key card to the premises can take electronic exams between June 30th and August 3rd. 

Reserving an exam

• Reserve an exam in the electronic exam system https://exam.ulapland.fi
• Log in to the system with your user account and password
• Go to exam page and write the name of the course or coursecode.
• The exam will appear to you. Click Register for the exam.
• Then you have to choose the room (exam or e-exam for disabled).
• Choose the date and time from the reservation calendar.
• Confirm your reservation.

Taking an exam

• The door of the exam room opens 5 min before the exam. You can enter the room 30 min after your exam time.
• There is a locker cabinet in the exam room, where you should leave all your personal belongings. Only a water bottle is allowed during the exam.
  
• Go to the computer allocated to you. The system will inform you if you are in the wrong place.    
• Start the exam. During the exam, you can see the remaining time on the screen.
• Take your exam. The system saves your answer once a minute, but you can also click Save.
• Work quietly in the exam room. Discussions with others are prohibited. If you wish, you can use the ear muffs in Exam room for a quieter exam. While taking the exam, you may not leave the Exam room.
• When finished, make sure you have answered all questions as required. Submit the exam by clicking the Save and Submit button.
• Close the browser and press Quit. The computer will delete the files you have created.

Disturbances and problems during the examination

• If your exam is disturbed or impeded, close the browser and wait for the computer to restart. Sign back in to the system and try continuing with your exam. If this does not work, leave the room and fill out the report form for impedance or discontinuation of an exam without delay. 
• You are required to submit the report to be able to retake the exam before grading.
• You always take the electronic exam on your own responsibility. The University cannot offer you any technical support during your exam.

University of Lapland students

Students of the University of Lapland have the opportunity to take the Exam exam in another city. Exam visits are currently possible at the Exam facilities of the universities listed on the Exam consortium page.

Register for the Electronic exam through the electronic exam service of the University of Lapland with your own ulapland ID and reserve your exam place from the list of an external educational institution. You will receive a booking confirmation by email. Please check the instructions and opening hours regarding the exam facilities of another university before making a reservation. Practices vary between different universities.

Students from other Universities

The University of Lapland participates in the shared use of Exam, so a student from another higher education institution can book an exam time in the University of Lapland's exam room as well. The exam can be taken during the university's opening hours. The doors to the exam room open 5 minutes before the exam starts. Before making a reservation, check the university's opening hours and the instructions for using the Exam room. The following software programs are available on the examination machines at the University of Lapland: Word, Excel, Acrobat Reader, calculator, Windows photos and Notepad. If answering the exam requires other programs, you cannot take the exam in our Exam room. Register for an Exam visit and reserve your exam time in the Exam system of your home university and with your home university's ID.

The University of Lapland will gradually introduce an Electronic exam with Safe Exam Browser. It (SEB Exam) is an electronic exam that students take on their own computers, which is conducted in the university's premises as a lecture hall exam. The exam cannot be taken anywhere else than in the room specified by the teacher.
