Hilkka is a doctoral candidate at the University of Lapland and focuses her research on how design can ease the integration of newly arrived people into Finland. She is a nurse by profession and a diaconess by vocation. In her previous research she has studied integration/acculturation into a new country. She has for example facilitated the co-creation of a regional service model for providing social and health services for migrants. She works currently at the Laurea University of Applied Sciences in various development projects.

Päivi is a doctoral candidate at the University of Lapland researching empathy in a digital customer tourism journey. Päivi has a demonstrated history of working in the tourism business and in higher education. Her skills are in digital experience design with a focus on customer insight. Working as a Senior Lecturer at the Lapland UAS and as a Junior Researcher at the University of Lapland creates a contribution to research and practice-based development.

Caoimhe is a doctoral researcher in the Culture-based service design/Arctic in a changing world program and has worked on multiple international research projects within the research group. Her research projects aim at developing socially responsible design practices, particularly those that involve community-orientated collaborations. Her work has focused on designing in Northern and Arctic contexts (Nordicity).

Jenny is a designer, educator and since 2022, a PhD student at the University of Lapland. As part of the program 'The Arctic in a Changing World', her research focuses on the role materials play in the creative and co-creation process. Since graduating with an MFA from Konstfack in Stockholm (SE), Jenny has been combining work in both commercial and academic contexts with art projects and teaching commissions. As a design professor at HMKW University of Applied Sciences in Berlin (DE), she teaches courses such as Design Thinking, User-centered Design as well as Creative Design Processes.

Shaohua is a doctoral researcher in the Culture-based Service Design program at the University of Lapland and has been working on the topic of how the „good old days“ experiences can promote elderly care through service design. His interests are at Social Innovation, Cross-cultural Design, Integrated Design etc. At the same time, he is also working as senior lecturer at Brand University of Applied Sciences (Hamburg Germany); the Design school of Beijing Normal University (Zhuhai China) and a researcher fellow at Sau Po Centre on Ageing of the University of Hong Kong.
