The forest supports our well-being in many ways. Being in the forest reduces stress and lowers blood pressure. The sounds, greenery and tranquility of nature help you relax. In the forest, you can engage in varied and invigorating physical activities that promote heart health, muscle tone and metabolism. Being in nature can boost your mood and help relieve depression.
Exercising in the forest is also associated with better concentration, increased creativity and improved brain function. Shared hikes and outdoor activities strengthen social relationships and a sense of community. Being in nature helps us to pause for a moment and become more aware of the world around us. Forests also produce oxygen and sequester carbon dioxide, which improves air quality and promotes health.
The University of Lapland's Wellbeing Forest has five areas where you can do different exercises. You can choose the sites randomly, according to your preferences. You can also stay in the forest without doing anything. The important thing is to visit the forest once in a while.
