I work as a Junior Research at the Faculty of Law of the University of Lapland. The research topic of my PhD is the role of fathers in the best interests of the child under the European human rights regime. My educational and professional background is in public international law and global criminal law. I have specialized in children’s rights.

Tapio Koivula is a junior researcher at the University of Lapland. His topic of research is the role of fathers in the best interests of the child under the European human rights regime. In his work, he examines the concept of parenthood as interpreted in international treaties and European legal practice relating to custody disputes. In his prior research, he has analyzed the interpretation of the best interests of the child between different European countries, and parental alienation from the point of view of theories of criminalization.
