The halfway examination of the doctoral thesis of Saara Tuulari was held on Tuesday 28.3.2023.The working title of the thesis is "Love and money - financial guardianship of children".

The research concerns the best interests of the child, the role of parents and the limits of official supervision in the context of financial guardianship of the child, i.e. guardianship under the Guardianship Act. The child's best interests are examined through the welfare-theoretical division of having, loving, being, doing, and are further specified by the 3x10D life situation indicator developed in a multidisciplinary collaboration. The aim of the study is to provide new knowledge for the development of guardianship practices and regulation, so that the best interests of the child and the rights and responsibilities of parents are better taken into account in the guardianship system.

There was a lively discussion on the topic of the work, the current state of progress, the theory chosen and the results at this stage. The opponent was Maija Aalto-Heinilä, Professor of Philosophy of Law at the University of Eastern Finland.
