Tasks and responsibilities

• To instruct people and to organise and lead the activities and recovery of the University of Lapland in crises and in disruptions of normal circumstances.

Communication in an emergency

• A state of emergency and the related instructions are communicated to the community in Finnish and English through the News section on the intranet, by sending email to the personnel and students, and through Tuudo.
• The faculties and other units providing instruction communicate study-related issues to students via email, Tuudo, and other relevant media.
• We encourage personnel and students to regularly follow the above-mentioned channels.
• When necessary, we also communicate through the official social media accounts of the university: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. In addition, we notify the local media about updates to our general policies.

Tasks and responsibilities

Supports the director of administration in managing the preparedness of the university (preparedness planning, preliminary preparations and arrangements, maintaining operational readiness, and personnel training and drills)

• In charge of updating the documents and safety instructions necessitated by overall safety and maintenance of the preparedness of the university
• In charge of communication, training, and exercises advancing the safety of personnel and students
• Organises the training of the preparedness teams of the university and the LUC
• Organises the continuity planning of education, research, and services and the implementation of precautionary measures required by continuity
• Maintains stakeholder collaboration necessitated by preparedness
• Processes the initiatives, proposals, and action plans of the university’s safety network

The team is chaired by the director of administration and its secretary is the safety manager/specialist. The team can be supplemented with specialists as required.

The tasks of the team will be specified further and updated based on updates to the Preparedness Plan of the University of Lapland.

• Creates initiatives and presents proposals for action to the LUC Safety and Preparedness Team.
