Rovaniemi is the provincial centre of Lapland, located right on the Arctic Circle. The town lies at the confluence of the rivers Ounasjoki and Kemijoki, and is a historical meeting point for trade, people and cultures of the north.

Today, Rovaniemi is a lively university town and a popular travel destination, as well as the regional, commercial, administrative, educational, cultural and sports capital of Finnish Lapland. In terms of geographic area, Rovaniemi (8 017 km²) is one of the largest towns in Europe. With approximately 60,000 inhabitants, it is the 15th biggest town in Finland.

The Arenas

Lappia Hall

- Day 2 – Policy Day, Tuesday 4th of June

DAY 2 takes places in the Lappia Hall. The Lappia Hall is home of Rovaniemi theater and a famous congress hall. The hall itself, the interior and furnitures are designed by architect Alvar Aalto making it one of the most valuable architectural sights in Lapland. The Lappia Hall is located to the centre of Rovaniemi.

University of Lapland

- Day 1 – Pre-Summit, Monday 3rd of June

- Day 3 – Dialogue and Hands-on Approach, Wednesday 5th of June

Day 1 & Day 3 are hosted in the University of Lapland, which is the northernmost University in the EU. It was founded in 1979 and has four faculties and two multidisciplinary research institutes. The University’s key research area is Arctic and Northern research, approached from the perspectives of people, society, education, law, the environment as well as art and design.

The Summit takes place at lecture halls and workshop rooms located at the University of Lapland main campus. It is located about two kilometres, or 20-30 min walk from the city centre. Bus transportation will be arranged from the city centre.

Korundi House of Culture, 

Tuesday 4th of June

- Welcome reception by the City of Rovaniemi

- Arctic // Street Art // Summit, Exhibition opening 

The reception of the Rovaniemi city is in the Rovaniemi Art Museum, in the Korundi House of Culture (in address Lapinkävijäntie 4). The building now housing the Korundi House of Culture was originally an old post bus depot dating back to 1933. The modifications and expansion completed in 2009 and 2010 were designed by architect Juhani Pallasmaa.

Arktikum House

Monday 3rd of June

- Fringe, Exhibition opening

The Fringe exhibition is shown in Arktikum House. Arktikum is a science center and museum that lets you experience northern nature, culture, and history up close. Housing the University of Lapland’s Arctic Center and the Regional Museum of Lapland, Arktikum stimulates thought, encourage debate, and provide a deeper understanding of the Arctic.

Gallery Napa

Tuesday 4th of June

- Young Arctic Artists, Exhibition opening  

The Artists ́ Association of Lapland presents and promotes contemporary art made in Lapland and arranges exhibitions in Finland and abroad. One of the galleries the Association runs is Gallery Napa, Kairatie 3, in Rovaniemi. The Young Arctic Artists exhibition will be presented there from 5th of June until 31st of July and the opening will take place on Tuesday 4th of June at 19.30.

Restaurant Valdemari

Wednesday 5th of June

- Quantum Tangle


The Restaurant Valdemari is home to an easy going mood. When the midnight sun is shining there is no better place than the Valdemari summer terrace to admire views on river. Valdemari is the only riverside terrace by the Ounaskoski falls. Dinner is served inside and live music played later in the evening outdoors.

The restaurant is located in address Jäämerentie 9.
