If your research is fundamentally international and you know that you need supervision from another university based outside Finland, you could consider becoming a Cotutelle doctoral candidate. In a Cotutelle agreement, you register as a doctoral candidate at two universities and become jointly supervised at both universities, carrying out studies and the degree at both the University of Lapland and another university simultaneously. Upon successful completion, you are able to graduate from both universities. You will complete one dissertation which must comply with criteria at both universities.
Supervisors' responsibilities, pre-examination and grading procedures are specified in the supervision agreement. A Cotutelle agreement should be made at the very beginning of your doctoral studies, but no later than 1.5 years from the starting date of your doctoral study right. We make joint supervision arrangements always individually, on a case-by-case basis.
