Art and culture studies

Department of Fine Arts and Culture Studies (DFACS)

The Department of Fine Arts and Culture Studies (DFACS) is responsible for organising the major and minor studies as well as doctoral education in art and culture subjects. The teaching is international, multidisciplinary and multicultural with the emphasis on the northern perspective.

Tasks

to organise research, education and artistic activity for visual arts, and art and culture research
to organise the art studies in all degree programmes at the Faculty of Art and Design, studies in art and culture research, and general research seminars
to organise the national doctoral seminar for art and culture research

Studies at the DFACS

Visual Arts

The basic and subject studies in Visual Arts are suitable for students from all faculties. Fifteen students are admitted to the subject studies on the basis of their portfolios and interviews. The application period for the studies is in the spring.

Art History

Studies in Art History are available for all students at our university, and can also be taken at the Open University.

Photography

The separate application for the basic studies in Photography takes place in May. You can complete the basic study module only if you have been accepted into the studies.
