Interior and Textile Design

Interior and Textile Design is a unique subject in Finland, as you can take it only at our university. In our studies art and science meet in the context of interior and textile design. Some of the most important elements of interior design are textiles, which can serve as domestic textiles, art and acoustical surfaces in public places and be an innovative part of the built environment. Your studies in the programme enable you to examine interior design from the perspective of multisensory spatial experiences.

Your studies introduce you to textile design and production, textile art and spatial design. 3D modelling, introduced in the design technology studies, helps you to visualise textiles and other elements of interior design in practice, allowing you to turn a given space into a visual and experiential unit.

Areas of focus

Interior Design

Interior Design introduces you to different spaces and enables you to study their functionality and comfort. During the programme students design and produce elements of interior design to meet the needs of different spaces and customers. They approach the design process and methods from innovative, artistic and scientific premises. The targets can be private and public spaces, exhibitions and fairs, as well as individual interior design textiles and products.

Textile Design

In Textile Design you will focus on textile design, textile techniques and productisation through investigative and experimental learning. An essential part of your artistic and investigative design process in woven and printed textile studies is experimenting with materials and techniques as well as prototyping. In this way you will develop your professional competence and prepare for a career as a product designer.
