Conference: Developing an Inclusive School and book launch on March - Registration is open!

UArctic Thematic Network on Teacher Education is organising a conference "Developing an Inclusive School" on March 26-27 in Rovaniemi, Finland. Registration to the conference is now open. The conference is open for researchers, teacher educators and teachers.

The second two-days workshop of Arctic5 project was held on January 23-24 at University of Lapland in Rovaniemi. The workshop gathered together twenty professors, researchers, educators and students from five Nordic Arctic universities.

UNITWIN/UNESCO Network on Teacher Education for Social Justice and Diversity has accepted two new members. The administrational meeting of the Network was held on November 12 and the new members were accepted by all the current members.

University of Lapland joins the International Year of Indigenous Languages

UNESCO and UN are co-organizing International Year of Indigenous Languages 2019. The aim of the IY2019 is to raise awareness of the Indigenous languages, to support revitalization and maintenance of Indigenous languages and to empower Indigenous language speakers and cultures.

On October 18th, 2018, Professor Tuija Turunen, the leader of the UNITWIN/UNESCO Network on teacher education and the UArctic TN, visited the Deir Kifa high school in Lebanon. The high school invited her to speak about the Finnish pedagogy and the use of ICT in teaching. Professor Turunen gave a lecture about the topic "Phenomenon based pedagogy and ICT: How to promote pedagogically sound education with ICT?"

The five Arctic universities, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, Umeå University, Luleå Technical University, University of Oulu and University of Lapland formed a new collaboration called Arctic Five in summer 2018.

The Education plenary session was held Thursday 6th at the University of Oulu. It consisted of the opening speech and the main keynote. The chair of the plenary was Michael Castellini, UArctic Vice-President Academic, from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. University lecturer Suvi Lakkala from the University of Lapland was the commentator of the plenary.

Evaluation Day of the TN on April 20

On Friday, April 20, 2018 the UArctic thematic network’s planning group had an Evaluation day regarding the questionnaire sent to members of our network. In the questionnaire, the TN asked the members to rate an activities, give suggestions and leave any feedback they wanted. Professional experts of teacher education met to assess the results and go through suggestions that we got. The response rate was 40%.

UArctic Thematic Network (TN) Symposium Teacher Education of the Arctic region – Diversity and Identity in the North bring representatives together to Rovaniemi from the Arctic member universities from Canada, UK, Norway, Finland and Russia. During the Symposium, held 27-28 of November, a vision for the TN was co-created together with concrete steps towards strengthening the collaboration in teaching and research.
