    22nd anniversary for the International Summer School in Social Work at the University of Lapland 22.5-5.6.2019

    About 60 students, teachers, and researchers from 11 different countries will gather at the International Summer School in Social Work to discuss social work and social services from global perspective. The summer school is organized by the unit of Social Work at the University of Lapland in collaboration with the University of Pennsylvania. Responsible organizers are university lecturer Kati Kataja from the University of Lapland and professor Stanley L. Witkin from the University of Pennsylvania. The summer school will take place at the University of Lapland from 22 May to 5 June 2019.

    The so-called digital leap of learning is a constant topic of discussion in the media and educational institutions. However, instead of taking superficial digital leaps, it is time to move toward more goal-oriented, dialogical, and collaborative knowledge construction where students can choose digital work environments that they prefer. Sanna Ruhalahti, MBA , has advanced a pedagogical model in the context of vocational teacher education, where authentic and dialogical collaborative knowledge construction is taken into the direction of deep learning in digital environments.

    Again this autumn, the University of Lapland warmly welcomes all new international students to campus. The attractive international educational offering of the university has brought more than 180 international exchange students and degree students from over 30 countries to Lapland.

    Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Lapland has decided to organize a supplementary application round for Tourism, Culture and International Management Master´s degree programme in May for study places that were not filled during the primary application round.

  • University of Lapland is safe and welcoming for international students

    The University of Lapland has scored highly on the International Student Barometer (ISB), a survey measuring how satisfied international degree and exchange students are with their study experience. International students were especially satisfied with safety, arrival support and on-campus restaurants, areas where the University ranked number one out of 120 universities globally.

    Call for applications open for international master´s degree programmes at the University of Lapland

    Application period for international master´s degree programmes at the University of Lapland starts on 1st of December. There are four degree programmes available this application round in the fields of tourism, media education and art and design and they are arranged by three different faculties. Altogether 45 study places are available.

    Student admission based on upper-secondary school certificates and matriculation examinations is becoming one route to university. The system is currently under development with the help of a tool created for scoring matriculation examination grades.

  • Open seminar about ethics at the University of Lapland

    An open seminar titled Living Ethics will be held at the University of Lapland on 13 September. The day begins at 10:00 am in the lecture hall Castrén. The University has invited a group of international experts who look at everyday ethical questions from fresh viewpoints. The day consists of presentations given by the experts.

  • University of Lapland’s Environmental Programme for the years 2017–2019 has been published

    University of Lapland’s Environmental Programme has been published. Released programme includes goals and actions for the improvement of environmental issues in our main campus for the years 2017-2019. Aim is to decrease the noticed environmental impacts and increase environmentally friendly activity without compromising work or study conditions.

    One-fifth of the first-year students are international

    More than 420 international students from over 40 countries will start their studies this autumn at the University of Lapland and Lapland University of Applied Sciences. Their share is up to 20 percent of all the new students at the universities.
